Lowry Superfund Site
Lowry Landfill Groundwater Bio-Treatment System
|
At the request of Engineering Science, Inc., Denver office, Phoenix Bio-Systems designed and built an Aerobic Groundwater Bio-Treatment System for installation at the Lowry Landfill Super Fund site in Denver, Colorado. The seepage/surface water analysis indicated the presence of high BOD5, as well as chlorinated and non-chlorinated solvents, which were bio-degradable components comprising the major portion of contamination. Effluent waters had to meet very high quality standards for discharge. It was determined that a combined treatment system, including a primary bio-reactor, followed by an air stripper, and both vapor- and liquid-phase carbon adsorption systems would be necessary to insure the treatment levels required. A treatability report and design for a dual fixed-film, aerobic bio-reactor, including a clarifier for sludge settling and removal was provided. Installation Supervision, Operator Training, and Operations and Maintenance Manuals were provided. The Bio-Reactor was fabricated to Phoenix Bio-Systems design as a package unit by AAA Environmental Services of Florida.
