Corn Processing Wastewater Treatment System
|
NEBRASKA NUTRIENTS, INC. of Sutherland, Nebraska contracted Phoenix Bio-Systems to provide design assistance for the company's wastewater treatment system. Nebraska Nutrients constructed a new plant designed to produce a variety of products from corn, including corn gluten, corn gluten feed, ethanol, Brewer's yeast and Torula yeast. The wastewater from this operation was 220,000 gallons per day containing COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand, 3,000-5,000 mg/I), nitrogen and suspended solids. Phoenix has provided design for a 110,000 gallon anaerobic bio-reactor for pre-treatment of the high strength waste, as well as for an aeration lagoon (1 million gallons) and two one million gallon storage lagoons. The effluent from the storage lagoons will be spray irrigated onto 150 acres of crop fields for final reclamation. Phoenix provided design, equipment specification and procurement assistance for all phases of the wastewater treatment system, as well as operating manuals and assistance with NPDES permitting for the facility.
